1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4X4

Description

“The turn of the millennium was a time of technological leaps and a burgeoning internet, yet amidst this backdrop, the 1999 Jeep Wrangler stood as a testament to enduring design and rugged functionality. Born from the lineage of the World War II Willys MB, the ’99 Wrangler carried the torch of Jeep’s storied past into a new era. This iteration of Jeep’s iconic off roader was manufactured by what was then known as Chrysler Corporation, under its Jeep marque. A unique fact that entices enthusiasts is that this model year preceded Jeep’s integration into DaimlerChrysler, making it one of the last Wranglers produced under purely American ownership.” Metroparts.com

For consignment, a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4×4 with a title verified 147,284 actual miles. While the original Sahara editions carried a specific exterior aesthetic package, our example has been altered to present more in line with its rugged utility and packs a bit of lightning under the hood.

Exterior

If you’re going to be bushwhacking, you might as well put on a rough coat, and that’s what we have here in the dark green Rhino coverage to include the famous front grille for a more monochromatic presentation. It’s accented by necessity in black which takes in the fender flares, side mirrors, black canvas top, bumpers, and Army spare cover out back. But the wheel and tire set up may take the spotlight, 15-inch Method Race wheels wrapped in LT rated tires with an early 2020 date code. Up front, a winch is onboard for getting you, or others out of trouble on the trail along with fog light and both are covered while LED tail lights flank the spare in back. We could find no exterior imperfections.

Interior

The rough edged exterior gives way to rather pedestrian door panels in the form of tan molded plastic and black hardware with the driver’s side showing a touch of use. PRP race bucket seats occupy the front with camouflage accents on black cloth surface and vinyl side bolsters and matching seat belt pads pick up the green. Our view to the front includes a standard steering wheel, digital boost and A/F gauges on the dash, flanking a standard instrument cluster framed in black. The center stack includes a Sony AM/FM/CD over the A/C panel, while to the right, textured tan plastic fronts the passenger and affords an “O. S.” handle, and if you don’t know O. S., you haven’t been offroad! A wood handled shifter rises from the center console and WeatherTech mats contour to the floor that’s painted as the outside. That Rhino coat also covers the cargo area where a large speaker is tied to the floor.

Drivetrain

Under the hood is a 4.0 liter inline six augmented with a Ford SVT supercharger, all mated to a 5-speed manual transmission routing power to the Dana 35 axle in back and a Dana 30 up front.

Undercarriage

A Solid rear differential cover and skid plate fortify the underside where a single exhaust runs through a Banks Monster muffler, terminating at a chrome tip out back. Suspension includes a 4 link with coil springs at all four corners along with Fox shocks and a 4″ Long Arm lift kit. Power disc brakes are found front and rear.

Drive-Ability

This rugged ride takes a commanding presence on the test loop and does everything well and we’re convinced that it can go well beyond the flat tarmac without a problem. The supercharger adds a nice bit of boost and sounds pretty good too! All functions in this well sorted 4×4 operate as fully intended and our mission comes to an end as we bring it back to the mall for a place in the showroom. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Here’s a Sahara taken to the next level, not only in performance, but in appearance. It’ll look right at home on an alpine trail, will handle the desert terrain with ease, and will pose for photos against the red rocks of the southwest. So much good looking and fun riding potential here. Get your ducks in a row, and register your interest today!
